I firmly believe in the motto “work hard, play hard” and follow that in my classroom. Just like adults, kids experience relief in the arrival of Friday and need a break in the regular classroom routine. Friday Fun is a great way to end a week of hard work. It is also a great chance for students to socialize, build relationships, and practice social skills.
Below I am sharing our favorite activities for Friday Fun. Use them all at once, or rotate through activities on different weeks. Do what works best for you and your students.
Games
Board games are not only fun, but teach important skills like taking turns, logical thinking, and how to be a good sport. I get most of my games from Amazon, but also have found some at Goodwill or similar stores at a discounted price and in pretty decent shape!
My students LOVE playing headbands. I love that they are building their vocabulary and questioning skills while having fun!
This game can be played with a partner or as an independent game. Great for developing critical thinking skills. Different levels included.
One of my favorites when I was a kid and my students love it just as much!
You cannot go wrong with any of these classic games!
Building/STEM activities
These activities are hands down some of my students’ favorites. These tools really amp up their imagination and creativity. I am always amazed with the things they come up with!
Magnatiles are a classroom must. They are more money than I typically like to spend on school stuff, but they last forever and are a classroom favorite!
These interlocking disks are great for making flowers, animals, towers, and more!
You cannot go wrong with Legos. I have a large Lego kit (like the one pictured) and I also have a few individual sets for students to use.
This activity requires a lot of patience and creative thinking. Get the marble through the maze by building your own track. Your students will not get bored of this one!
I have so many memories of creating marble runs as a kid. I love to pass on this fun activity to my students!
A cheaper option than Magnatiles and just as fun!
Art
Our favorite art activities are directed drawings on Art for Kids Hub on YouTube. They have virtually anything you can think of that your students may want to create! And its FREE!
I also print out coloring sheets that I always have on handy for students to use.
I love having playdough for Fun Fridays, but used to struggle with storing it. I love this tub because it is easy storage and comes with everything you need for a small playdough station in your class.
These rainbow scratch papers are oddly satisfying and a class favorite. I do limit them to one per Friday, otherwise they would be gone in one afternoon!
I like to pull out some fun pens or markers when students are getting tired of the old supplies. These Mr. Sketch Markers are always a hit!
The mess of paint can be too much for a Friday Fun activity, but these alternatives are just as fun with way less mess!
